Olaf weakens slightly

Olaf weakens slightly and expected to produce rainfall in the central Baja Peninsula. At 200 PM PDT/2100 UTC the center of Tropical Storm Olaf was located near latitude 23.8 north – longitude 117.2 west or about 465 miles/750 km west of the southern tip of Baja California.

Olaf is moving toward the north near 9 mph/15 km/hr. A turn toward the northeast and then toward the east-northeast is expected in the next 24 to 36 hours. On this track Olaf or its remnants will be near the central Baja California peninsula by Saturday night.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 40 mph/65 km/hr with higher gusts. Additional weakening is forecast in the next 24 hours and Olaf is expected to weaken to a tropical depression on Saturday. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 85 miles/140 km from the center.
