Lowell moving away from Socorro island with little change in strength. Interests in southern Baja California should monitor the progress of Lowell. At 200 PM PDT…2100z…the center of Tropical Storm Lowell was located near latitude 19.8 north…longitude 112.1 west or about 100 miles…160 km…northwest of Socorro island and about 255 miles… 415 km…southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Lowell is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph…19 km/hr…and this general motion is expected to continue with a decrease in forward speed tonight and Tuesday. A turn toward the north is expected Tuesday night and Wednesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph…85 km/hr…with higher gusts. A gradual weakening is expected during the next couple of days.
